2021: A year in review

2021 was a wild year for me in many ways. Professionally I got my actual a** served to me on a platter. I was so busy this year. Too busy. Some people would say “wow! what a problem to have”. But folks, it was a problem. I worked myself into the ground. I found what burnout really was this year. Success can come at a cost and for me that cost was my physical health. I’ll write about that later. For now, here is a review of my 2021.

Jan - August

I worked like my life depended on it for the first half of the year. I completed more website projects than I can count. My agency had great growth this year. Year 5 was a success and that is something I’m very proud of. Each year of owning an agency has taught me something new.

In my home life, took a short vacation this year for the first time in 2 years. I spent some much needed time with my small friend circle. I realized I’m missing out on adventures and memories by spending too much time wrapped up in the hustle of success.

August - December

I think August - December is when I realized the importance of downtime, family, friends, and experiences. I felt guilty at times, about how much of what really matters in life did I sacrifice to my entrepreneurial dream. I try to not think about it. Instead, I’m focusing on being thankful for the journey. There is beauty in the journey for sure.

The second half of the year I took time to review my processes and procedures (more on that later in another post). In the second half of 2021 I made work changes and asked myself what services I want to keep offering and what services I don’t want to keep offering. These questions were something I was way overdue to ask myself.

I took a small break from work at the end of December. I planned ahead so I could have some downtime. I didn’t get to take a full 2-weeks off but I was able to slow things way down. I’m heading into Jan 2022 feeling motivated and ready to make 2022 the most successful year I’ve had.
